हिरण्यनाभं मैनाकमुवाच गिरिसत्तमम् ।
त्वमिहासुरसंघानां पाताLअतलवासिनां ॥ ॥५-१-९२॥
hiraṇyanābhaṃ mainākamuvāca girisattamam । tvamihāsurasaṃghānāṃ pātālatalavāsināṃ ॥ ॥5-1-92॥
Translation
The Ocean spoke to Mainaka, the best of mountains having a golden nave: "Here, for the hosts of Asuras dwelling in the netherworlds..."

समुद्र ने सोने की नाभि वाले, पर्वतों में श्रेष्ठ मैनाक से कहा—"तुम यहाँ पाताल लोक में रहने वाले असुरों के समूहों के लिए..."
English Commentary
The Ocean addresses Mainaka, describing him as Hiraṇyanābha (Golden-naveled). This suggests that the mountain is rich in gold and minerals. The commentary on his function begins here: Mainaka is stationed at the threshold of the underworld (Patala), where the Asuras reside. The Ocean is setting the stage to explain why Mainaka exists in that specific location, linking his past duty (guarding against Asuras) to his present potential duty (helping Hanuman).

यहाँ मैनाक पर्वत का परिचय 'हिरण्यनाभं' (स्वर्ण-नाभि वाला) के रूप में दिया गया है। यह पर्वत समुद्र के भीतर स्थित है। सागर उसे उसके कर्तव्य की याद दिला रहे हैं। 'पातालतलवासिनां' असुरों का उल्लेख इसलिए है क्योंकि मैनाक को वहां एक अवरोधक (barrier) के रूप में रखा गया था ताकि पाताल के असुर ऊपर न आ सकें। सागर उसे अब एक नई भूमिका सौंपने जा रहे हैं। यह श्लोक मैनाक की सामरिक स्थिति (strategic position) को स्पष्ट करता है।
