पाताLअस्याप्रमेयस्य द्वारमावृत्य तिष्ठसि ।
तिर्यगूर्ध्वमधश्चैव शक्तिस्ते शैल वर्धितुम् ॥ ॥५-१-९४॥
pātālasyāprameyasya dvāramāvṛtya tiṣṭhasi । tiryagūrdhvamadhaścaiva śaktiste śaila vardhitum ॥ ॥5-1-94॥
Translation
"You stand blocking the gateway to the immeasurable netherworld. O Mountain, you have the power to grow sideways, upwards, and downwards."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"तुम उस अथाह पाताल के द्वार को घेरकर खड़े हो। हे पर्वत! तुममें तिरछे, ऊपर और नीचे—सभी दिशाओं में बढ़ने की शक्ति है।"
English Commentary
Mainaka is described as covering the entrance to the "immeasurable" (aprameya) Patala. Crucially, the Ocean reminds Mainaka of his supernatural ability: to expand in all dimensions—sideways, up, and down (tiryag-ūrdhvam-adhas). This shapeshifting capability is essential for the request the Ocean is about to make. He needs Mainaka to utilize this power to rise from the seabed to the ocean surface to provide a landing pad for Hanuman.
हिंदी टीका
मैनाक एक सामान्य जड़ पर्वत नहीं है; वह दिव्य और चेतन है। उसके पास अपना आकार बदलने की सिद्धि है। 'तिर्यगूर्ध्वमधश्चैव'—वह अपनी इच्छा से क्षैतिज (horizontally) और लंबवत (vertically) बढ़ सकता है। सागर उसे याद दिला रहे हैं कि तुम्हारे पास ऊपर उठने की क्षमता है, जिसका उपयोग अब तुम्हें करना चाहिए। हनुमान जी आकाश में हैं, इसलिए मैनाक को 'ऊर्ध्व' (ऊपर) बढ़कर जल से बाहर आना होगा।
