Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मम हीक्ष्वाकवः पूज्याः परं पूज्यतमास्तव ।
कुरु साचिव्यमस्माकं न नः कार्यमतिक्रमेत् ॥ ॥५-१-९७॥
mama hīkṣvākavaḥ pūjyāḥ paraṃ pūjyatamāstava । kuru sācivyamasmākaṃ na naḥ kāryamatikramet ॥ ॥5-1-97॥
Translation
"Indeed, the Ikshvakus are worthy of worship to me, and even more so to you. Perform this act of assistance for us, so that our duty is not neglected."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"इक्ष्वाकु वंश के लोग मेरे लिए पूजनीय हैं, और तुम्हारे लिए तो परम पूजनीय हैं। अतः तुम हमारी सहायता करो (सचिव का कार्य करो), ताकि हमारे कार्य का समय न बीत जाए (विघ्न न पड़े)।"
English Commentary
The Ocean establishes a hierarchy of obligation. While he owes respect to the Ikshvaku lineage (due to King Sagara), he implies Mainaka owes even more—perhaps hinting at the debt mountains owe to the ocean for sanctuary, or specifically to the wind god (Hanuman's father) who helped mountains in myths. The term sācivyam (assistance/ministry) suggests an active, intelligent participation, not just passive presence. The urgency is noted in na naḥ kāryam atikramet—time is of the essence, and the window for duty must not be missed.

सागर यहाँ मैनाक पर्वत को 'कुल-धर्म' की याद दिला रहे हैं। सागर का इक्ष्वाकु वंश से संबंध है, इसलिए वे पूजनीय हैं। लेकिन मैनाक के लिए वे 'पूज्यतमाः' (सबसे अधिक पूजनीय) क्यों हैं? क्योंकि मैनाक को इंद्र के वज्र से बचाने में संभवतः पवनदेव (हनुमान के पिता) या किसी पूर्वज का हाथ रहा होगा, या फिर सागर के भीतर सुरक्षित रहने का आश्रय मिला जो इक्ष्वाकु वंशज सगर द्वारा वर्धित है। 'साचिव्यम्' का अर्थ है सचिव या सहायक का कर्म। सागर चाहते हैं कि मैनाक एक मंत्री की भांति सहायता करे ताकि 'कार्य' (हनुमान की यात्रा) में विलंब न हो।
