कर्तव्यमकृतं कार्यं सतां मन्युमुदीरयेत् ।
सलिलादूर्ध्वमुत्तिष्ठ तिष्ठत्वेष कपिस्त्वयि ॥ ॥५-१-९८॥
kartavyamakṛtaṃ kāryaṃ satāṃ manyumudīrayet । salilādūrdhvamuttiṣṭha tiṣṭhatveṣa kapistvayi ॥ ॥5-1-98॥
Translation
"A duty that ought to be done, if left undone, can provoke the anger of the virtuous. Therefore, rise up from the water; let this monkey stand upon you."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"जो कर्तव्य करने योग्य हो, यदि वह न किया जाए तो सज्जनों को क्रोध आता है। अतः जल से ऊपर उठो; यह वानर (हनुमान) तुम पर खड़ा हो (विश्राम करे)।"
English Commentary
The Ocean uses a persuasive moral argument: negligence of duty (kartavyam akṛtam) provokes righteous indignation (manyu) even in good people. He frames the assistance not as a favor, but as a mandatory duty to avoid the spiritual consequence of angering the virtuous (like Rama or the sages). The physical command is simple: uttiṣṭha (rise up). The goal is to provide a platform for Hanuman to pause, reinforcing the Ocean's role as a facilitator of the mission.

यह श्लोक कर्मठता और नैतिकता का पाठ पढ़ाता है। सज्जन व्यक्ति (सतां) प्रायः शांत होते हैं, किन्तु यदि कोई अपना कर्तव्य न निभाए, तो उन्हें भी क्रोध आ सकता है (मन्युमुदीरयेत्)। सागर मैनाक को चेतावनी दे रहे हैं कि यदि हमने राम-दूत की सेवा नहीं की, तो यह धर्म-विरुद्ध होगा और हम सज्जनों के कोप का पात्र बनेंगे। 'तिष्ठत्वेष कपिस्त्वयि'—यह एक सुंदर दृश्य योजना है; सागर चाहते हैं कि हनुमान क्षण भर के लिए मैनाक के शिखर पर पैर रखकर सांस लें।
