Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अथ आरोहणम् आसाद्य वेदिका अन्तरम् आश्रितः ।
सुप्तम् राक्षस शार्दूलम् प्रेक्षते स्म महा कपिः ॥५-१०-१३॥
Atha ārohaṇam āsādya vedikā antaram āśritaḥ । Suptam rākṣasa śārdūlam prekṣate sma mahā kapiḥ ॥ ॥5-10-13॥
Translation
Then, climbing onto a platform (dais) and taking a position in the middle of the altar, the great monkey began to observe the sleeping tiger among Rakshasas.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इसके पश्चात, (अपने को संभालते हुए) वे एक ऊँचे स्थान (आरोहणम्) पर चढ़कर और वेदिका के मध्य का आश्रय लेकर, उस सोए हुए राक्षस-शार्दूल (राक्षसों में बाघ समान रावण) को ध्यानपूर्वक देखने लगे।
English Commentary
After the initial startle, Hanuman regains his composure and tactical mindset. He seeks a vantage point (ārohaṇam) to observe Ravana safely. The metaphor shifts from snake to śārdūla (tiger), emphasizing Ravana's predatory majesty. Hanuman observes (prekṣate sma) him clinically. This moment marks the transition from exploration to the direct assessment of the primary antagonist.

पिछले श्लोक में पीछे हटने के बाद, अब हनुमान जी अपनी स्थिति सुदृढ़ करते हैं। वे रावण को ठीक से देखने के लिए एक 'वेदिका' (ऊँचा चबूतरा) पर चढ़ जाते हैं। रावण के लिए 'राक्षस शार्दूल' (राक्षसों में बाघ) का विशेषण प्रयुक्त हुआ है, जो उसकी शक्ति और हिंस्र स्वभाव को दर्शाता है। अब हनुमान जी एक सुरक्षित दूरी और ऊँचाई से अपने शत्रु का 'अवलोकन' (inspection) कर रहे हैं, जैसे कोई गुप्तचर शत्रु के शिविर का जायजा लेता है।
