Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पीनौ समसुजात अम्सौ सम्गतौ बल सम्युतौ ।
सुलक्षण नख अन्गुष्ठौ स्वन्गुली तल लक्षितौ ॥५-१०-१७॥
Pīnau samasujāta amsau saṃgatau bala saṃyutau । Sulakṣaṇa nakha aṅguṣṭhau svaṅgulī tala lakṣitau ॥ ॥5-10-17॥
Translation
Those arms were muscular, with well-formed and symmetrical shoulders, well-joined, and possessed of strength. The nails and thumbs bore auspicious marks, and the fingers and palms were also marked with excellent signs.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे भुजाएँ पुष्ट (पीन), समान और सुंदर कंधों वाली (समसुजात अम्सौ), सुगठित (संगतौ) और बल से युक्त थीं। उनके नाखून और अंगूठे शुभ लक्षणों वाले थे और उनकी उंगलियां तथा हथेलियां भी (सामुद्रिक शास्त्र के अनुसार) उत्तम लक्षणों से युक्त थीं।
English Commentary
Valmiki balances the grotesque scars with aesthetic perfection. The arms are not deformed; they are pīnau (muscular/stout) and samasujāta (symmetrical/well-grown). The reference to sulakṣaṇa (auspicious marks) on his nails and palms indicates that by destiny and birth, he possessed the physical traits of a Great Being (Mahapurusha), emphasizing the tragedy of his chosen path of evil.

युद्ध के घावों के बाद, अब वाल्मीकि जी रावण की शारीरिक सुंदरता और 'सामुद्रिक शास्त्र' (Physiognomy) के लक्षणों का वर्णन कर रहे हैं। रावण कुरूप नहीं है; वह एक उत्तम क्षत्रिय/योद्धा के लक्षणों से युक्त है। 'सुलक्षण' का अर्थ है कि उसके हाथों की रेखाएँ और बनावट एक 'चक्रवर्ती राजा' जैसी थीं। यह दर्शाता है कि रावण में महानता के सभी प्राकृतिक गुण थे, जिनका उपयोग उसने अधर्म के लिए किया।
