Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सम्हतौ परिघ आकारौ व्र्त्तौ करि कर उपमौ ।
विक्षिप्तौ शयने शुभ्रे पन्च शीर्षाव् इव उरगौ ॥५-१०-१८॥
Saṃhatau parigha ākārau vṛttau kari kara upamau । Vikṣiptau śayane śubhre pañca śīrṣāv iva uragau ॥ ॥5-10-18॥
Translation
They were firm, shaped like iron clubs, round like elephant trunks. Thrown upon that white bed, they looked like two five-headed serpents sleeping.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे भुजाएँ ठोस (संहत), लोहे की छड़ (परिघ) के आकार की, गोल और हाथी की सूंड (करिकर) के समान थीं। उस श्वेत बिस्तर पर फैली हुई वे भुजाएँ ऐसी लग रही थीं मानो दो पाँच फनों वाले साँप (पंचशीर्ष उरग) सो रहे हों।
English Commentary
The imagery combines mechanical strength (parigha - iron bludgeon) with organic power (karikara - elephant trunk). The final simile is visually striking: the arms resting on the white sheets look like pañca śīrṣāv uragau (five-headed snakes). This corresponds to his hands with five fingers. The contrast of the dark arms against the white bed (śubhre śayane) creates a stark visual, reinforcing the danger dormant in those hands.

यहाँ पुनः उपमाओं की झड़ी है। कठोरता में 'परिघ' (लोहे का मुगदर), गोलाई में 'हाथी की सूंड', और आकृति में 'पंचशीर्ष नाग'। 'पंचशीर्ष' (पाँच सिर वाले) नाग की उपमा उसकी पाँच उंगलियों के कारण दी गई है। सफेद चादर (शुभ्रे शयने) पर रावण की श्याम वर्ण की भुजाएँ नाग जैसी प्रतीत हो रही थीं। यह उपमा सुंदरता के साथ-साथ 'विष' और 'खतरे' का भी संकेत देती है।
