Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ददर्श स कपिः तस्य बाहू शयन सम्स्थितौ ।
मन्दरस्य अन्तरे सुप्तौ महा अर्ही रुषिताव् इव ॥५-१०-२१॥
Dadarśa sa kapiḥ tasya bāhū śayana saṃsthitau । Mandarasya antare suptau mahā arhī ruṣitāv iva ॥ ॥5-10-21॥
Translation
The monkey saw his arms lying on the bed, looking like two great angry serpents sleeping in the interior (caves) of Mount Mandara.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस वानर (हनुमान) ने बिस्तर पर रखी हुई उसकी उन भुजाओं को देखा, जो ऐसी लग रही थीं मानो मंदराचल पर्वत के बीच (गुफाओं में) दो विशाल और क्रोधित सांप (महारही) सो रहे हों।
English Commentary
The sequence concludes with a return to the mountain and snake imagery. Ravana's bulk is the Mandara mountain, and his arms are mahā ahī (great snakes) residing within it. The addition of ruṣitāv iva (as if angry) suggests that even in sleep, the tension and violence in Ravana's muscles are palpable. It reinforces the danger of the mission—Hanuman is literally walking into the dragon's den.
हिंदी टीका
भुजाओं के वर्णन का यह समापन श्लोक है। रावण का शरीर 'मंदराचल पर्वत' है और उसकी भुजाएँ 'क्रोधित नाग' हैं। 'रुषिताव् इव' (जैसे क्रोधित हों) महत्वपूर्ण है—सांप सो रहे हैं, लेकिन वे क्रोधित हैं, अर्थात् छूते ही डस लेंगे। यह रूपक रावण की 'सुप्त अवस्था' में भी उसकी 'घातक क्षमता' (lethality) को दर्शाता है। हनुमान जी इस भयानक दृश्य का साक्ष्य बन रहे हैं।
