Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नृत्त वादित्र कुशला राक्षस इन्द्र भुज अन्कगाः ।
वर आभरण धारिण्यो निषन्ना दद्र्शे कपिः ॥ ॥५-१०-३२॥
nṛtta vāditra kuśalā rākṣasa indra bhuja aṅkagāḥ । vara ābharaṇa dhāriṇyo niṣannā dadrśe kapiḥ ॥ ॥5-10-32॥
Translation
The monkey saw those women, skilled in dance and musical instruments, wearing excellent ornaments, resting on the arms and lap of the Lord of Rakshasas.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कपि (हनुमान) ने उन स्त्रियों को देखा जो नृत्य और वाद्य (बजाने) में कुशल थीं, उत्तम आभूषण धारण किए हुए थीं और (कुछ) राक्षसराज की भुजाओं तथा गोद (अंक) का सहारा लेकर सोई हुई थीं।
English Commentary
This verse highlights the cultural sophistication of Ravana's court; his wives are experts in the arts of dancing and music (nṛtta vāditra kuśalā). The intimacy is further portrayed by the phrase bhuja aṅkagāḥ—some were sleeping resting on his arms and lap. This signifies a profound closeness and a sense of security they felt with Ravana. It also physically reinforces Ravana's size, as his body serves as a resting place for multiple women. Hanuman (Kapi) observes this scene of royal intimacy, noting both the artistic refinement and the physical proximity of the wives to the demon king.

यह श्लोक रावण के रनिवास की कलात्मक अभिरुचि को दर्शाता है। उसकी पत्नियाँ केवल सुंदरी ही नहीं, बल्कि 'नृत्त वादित्र कुशला' (नाच-गाने में निपुण) भी थीं। 'भुज अन्कगाः' एक महत्वपूर्ण विशेषण है—कुछ स्त्रियाँ रावण की भुजाओं और गोद में सिर रखकर सोई हैं। यह रावण के प्रति उनके गहरे प्रेम और विश्वास को दर्शाता है, और साथ ही रावण की शारीरिक विशालता को भी—कि उसकी भुजाएँ और गोद कई स्त्रियों के लिए तकिये का काम कर रही हैं। यह दृश्य 'शृंगार रस' का उत्कर्ष है, जिसे हनुमान जी एक वैरागी और दूत के रूप में देख रहे हैं।
