Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
जातरूपपरिक्षिप्तम् चित्रभानुसमप्रभम् ।
अशोकमालाविततम् ददर्श परमासनम् ॥५-१०-४॥
Jātarūpa parikṣiptam citrabhānu samaprabham । Aśoka mālā vitatam dadarśa paramāsanam ॥ ॥5-10-4॥
Translation
He saw that supreme seat (bed), which was encased in gold, shining with the radiance of fire (Chitrabhanu), and festooned with garlands of Ashoka flowers.

उन्होंने उस श्रेष्ठ आसन (पलंग) को देखा जो सोने (जातरूप) से मढा हुआ था, अग्नि (चित्रभानु) के समान चमक रहा था और अशोक के फूलों की मालाओं से व्याप्त था।
English Commentary
The imagery shifts from the cool moon (umbrella) to the hot fire (citrabhānu), describing the golden radiance of the bed frame. The mention of Aśoka mālā (garlands of Ashoka flowers) is botanically and symbolically relevant. Ashoka trees (Saraca asoca) have bright orange-red flowers, which would vividly contrast against the gold. Symbolically, Ashoka means 'sorrow-less,' contrasting sharply with the sorrow Ravana has caused outside his palace walls.

'जातरूप' सोने का एक पर्यायवाची है (जो अपने मूल रूप में सुंदर हो)। 'चित्रभानु' अग्नि का नाम है, जो पलंग की चमक (brightness) को दर्शाता है। यहाँ 'अशोक माला' का उल्लेख महत्वपूर्ण है। रावण को अशोक के फूल प्रिय थे (उसकी वाटिका का नाम भी अशोक वाटिका था)। अशोक का अर्थ है 'बिना शोक के'। विडंबना यह है कि अशोक मालाओं के बीच सोने वाला रावण स्वयं अपने विनाश (शोक) को निमंत्रण दे चुका है।
