Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अन्या कमल पत्र अक्षी पूर्ण इन्दु सद्र्श आनना ।
अन्याम् आलिन्ग्य सुश्रोणी प्रसुप्ता मद विह्वला ॥५-१०-४८॥
anyā kamala patra akṣī pūrṇa indu sadṛśa ānanā । anyām ālingya suśroṇī prasuptā mada vihvalā ॥5-10-48॥
Translation
Another woman with eyes like lotus petals and a face resembling the full moon, having beautiful hips, slept hugging another woman, overwhelmed by intoxication.

कमल की पंखुड़ी के समान नेत्रों वाली और पूर्णिमा के चंद्रमा के समान मुख वाली, सुंदर नितम्बों वाली कोई अन्य स्त्री, मदिरा के मद में विह्वल होकर किसी दूसरी स्त्री को ही (पति मानकर) आलिंगन करके सो रही थी।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates the confusion and disorientation caused by excessive intoxication (mada vihvala). The woman described possesses classic signs of beauty—eyes like lotus petals and a moon-like face—yet her actions are uncoordinated. In her intoxicated sleep, seeking intimacy or comfort, she embraces another woman sleeping nearby. This act suggests that her mind, clouded by wine and sleep, cannot distinguish between her lover and her companion. It paints a picture of the reckless abandonment present in Ravana's court. While the imagery is sensual, it also subtly critiques the loss of awareness and decorum resulting from the hedonistic lifestyle of the Rakshasas. The scene is one of confused intimacy born of stupor.

रावण के रनिवास का यह चित्र मदिरापान के प्रभाव को स्पष्ट करता है। यहाँ स्त्री के सौंदर्य का वर्णन पारंपरिक उपमानों—कमल पत्र जैसे नेत्र और पूर्ण चंद्रमा जैसा मुख—से किया गया है। 'सुश्रोणी' विशेषण उसके शारीरिक सौष्ठव को दर्शाता है। महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है कि वह 'मद विह्वला' है (नशे में बेसुध)। इस बेसुध अवस्था में उसे दिशा या व्यक्ति का ज्ञान नहीं है। प्रेम और काम की भावना उसके मन में इतनी प्रबल है कि अचेतन अवस्था में वह अपनी सखी या पास लेटी दूसरी स्त्री को ही अपना प्रियतम समझकर आलिंगन कर रही है। यह श्लोक विलास और मोह की चरम सीमा को दर्शाता है जहाँ विवेक शून्य हो जाता है। यह दृश्य हनुमान जी को लंका की नैतिक और सामाजिक स्थिति का भी भान कराता है।
