Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
शयनानि अत्र नारीणाम् शून्यानि बहुधा पुनः ।
परस्परम् समाश्लिष्य काश्चित् सुप्ता वर अन्गनाः ॥ ॥५-११-२८॥
śayanāni atra nārīṇām śūnyāni bahudhā punaḥ । parasparam samāśliṣya kāścit suptā vara anganāḥ ॥ ॥5-11-28॥
Translation
Here, the beds belonging to the women were largely empty. Some excellent women were sleeping while hugging one another.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यहाँ स्त्रियों के बहुत से बिछौने (शय्याएँ) खाली पड़े थे। कुछ श्रेष्ठ स्त्रियाँ (वरांगनाएँ) एक-दूसरे को गले लगाकर (जहाँ-तहाँ) सो रही थीं।
English Commentary
This verse vividly portrays the aftermath of the revelry. The intended sleeping arrangements (shayanani) were abandoned, indicating that exhaustion overcame protocol. The image of women sleeping while embracing each other (parasparam samashlishya) suggests a seeking of comfort and warmth in an unconscious state. It highlights the disorder of the scene—protocol has collapsed under the weight of intoxication and fatigue, leaving the women in a vulnerable, unguarded pile.

यह श्लोक उत्सव के बाद की थकावट और अचेत अवस्था का चित्रण करता है। स्त्रियाँ इतनी मदहोश और थकी हुई थीं कि वे अपनी निर्धारित शय्याओं तक नहीं पहुँच सकीं। 'परस्परम् समाश्लिष्य' (एक-दूसरे को गले लगाकर) सोना यह दर्शाता है कि वे नशे और नींद में एक-दूसरे का सहारा ले रही थीं। यह दृश्य कामुकता से अधिक अबोधता (innocence) और गहरी नींद की निश्छलता को प्रकट करता है, जहाँ शारीरिक सुध-बुध समाप्त हो चुकी है।
