Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तासाम् उच्च्वास वातेन वस्त्रम् माल्यम् च गात्रजम् ।
न अत्यर्थम् स्पन्दते चित्रम् प्राप्य मन्दम् इव अनिलम् ॥ ॥५-११-३०॥
tāsām uccvāsa vātena vastram mālyam ca gātrajam । na atyartham spandate citram prāpya mandam iva anilam ॥ ॥5-11-30॥
Translation
Due to the air of their breaths, the garments and garlands on their bodies moved slightly, strangely/wonderfully, as if touched by a gentle breeze.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उनकी साँसों (उच्छ्वास) की हवा से उनके अंगों पर पड़े वस्त्र और मालाएँ धीरे-धीरे ऐसे हिल रहे थे, जैसे मंद हवा (अनिल) के स्पर्श से हिलते हैं। यह दृश्य विचित्र और सुंदर था।
English Commentary
This is a masterstroke of poetic observation. In the still air of the indoors, the only movement comes from the collective respiration of the sleeping women. Their rhythmic breathing creates a micro-climate, a gentle breeze that flutters their garments. It serves to emphasize the silence of the room—it is so quiet that the movement of breath is visible. It juxtaposes the stillness of the objects with the vitality of the sleepers.
हिंदी टीका
यह एक अत्यंत ही सूक्ष्म और कलात्मक वर्णन है। कक्ष में हवा बंद थी, किन्तु इतनी सारी स्त्रियों की सामूहिक साँसों (breathing rhythm) से वहाँ एक कृत्रिम मंद पवन चल रही थी। यह 'प्राण शक्ति' का सूचक है। निर्जीव वस्तुओं (वस्त्र और माला) का सजीव साँसों से हिलना हनुमान जी को उस निस्तब्ध वातावरण में जीवन का आभास करा रहा था। 'चित्रम्' शब्द का अर्थ है कि यह दृश्य अद्भुत या जादुई लग रहा था।
