Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
जगाम महतीम् चिन्ताम् धर्म साध्वस शन्कितः ।
पर दार अवरोधस्य प्रसुप्तस्य निरीक्षणम् ॥ ॥५-११-३७॥
jagāma mahatīm cintām dharma sādhvasa śankitaḥ । para dāra avarodhasya prasupasya nirīkṣaṇam ॥ ॥5-11-37॥
Translation
He fell into deep thought, apprehensive with the fear of unrighteousness (Dharma-sadhvasa). (He thought about) the observation of the sleeping wives of another.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(तभी) वे धर्म के भय से आशंकित होकर गहरी चिंता में पड़ गए। (उन्होंने सोचा कि) सोई हुई पराई स्त्रियों (परदारा) के समूह को इस प्रकार देखना (उचित नहीं है)।
English Commentary
This verse elevates Hanuman from a physical warrior to a moral philosopher. Dharma sadhvasa refers to the anxiety or trembling caused by the fear of violating moral law. Despite the urgency of his mission, Hanuman pauses to evaluate the ethics of his methodology: Is it righteous to gaze upon Para Dara (wives of another) in their private, sleeping moments? This internal audit defines his character as the ideal devotee and disciplined mind.

सुंदरकांड का यह अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण नैतिक क्षण है। हनुमान जी, जो एक वानर हैं और शत्रु के घर में जासूस हैं, फिर भी 'धर्म साध्वस' (अधर्म का भय) महसूस करते हैं। यह भारतीय संस्कृति का उच्च आदर्श है—लक्ष्य प्राप्ति के लिए भी साधनों की पवित्रता जांची जा रही है। एक ब्रह्मचारी के रूप में, पराई स्त्रियों को सोते हुए (अनावृत अवस्था में) देखना पाप माना जा सकता है। यह उनकी अंतरात्मा (conscience) की आवाज है।
