राक्षस्यो विविध आकारा विरूपा विकृताः तथा ।
दृष्टा हनूमता तत्र न तु सा जनक आत्मजा ॥ ॥५-१२-१९॥
Rākṣasyo vividha ākārā virūpā vikṛtāḥ tathā । Dṛṣṭā hanūmatā tatra na tu sā janaka ātmajā ॥ ॥5-12-19॥
Translation
Demonesses of various shapes, deformed and horrific, were seen there by Hanuman, but not that daughter of Janaka.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हनुमान जी ने वहाँ विविध प्रकार की, कुरूप और विकृत आकार वाली राक्षसियों को देखा, परन्तु उन जनकनन्दिनी (सीता) को नहीं देखा।
English Commentary
The verse draws a sharp contrast between what Hanuman sees and what he hopes to see. He encounters the grotesque reality of Lanka—demonesses (Rākṣasyo) who are virūpā (deformed) and vikṛtāḥ (horrific). These sights assault his senses, which are tuned to find the grace and divinity of Janaka’s daughter. The visual dissonance serves to heighten the pathos of the situation; surrounded by monstrosity, the absence of Sita, the embodiment of beauty and virtue, feels even more profound. It illustrates the spiritual isolation of Sita (if she were there) and the alien nature of the environment Hanuman has infiltrated.

यह श्लोक एक तीव्र विरोधाभास प्रस्तुत करता है। हनुमान जी की दृष्टि बार-बार उन दृश्यों पर पड़ती है जो सीता जी के सौम्य और पवित्र रूप के बिल्कुल विपरीत हैं। 'विरूपा' और 'विकृताः' शब्द राक्षसियों की तामसिक और भयानक प्रकृति को दर्शाते हैं। हनुमान जी का मन सात्विक सीता के दर्शन के लिए प्यासा है, किन्तु उन्हें केवल राक्षसी विरूपता ही दिखाई दे रही है। यह स्थिति उनकी मानसिक पीड़ा को बढ़ाती है। जनक की पुत्री (जनक आत्मजा) न दिखने का उल्लेख उनकी कुलीनता और पवित्रता की याद दिलाता है जो इस राक्षसी वातावरण में अनुपस्थित थी।
