उद्योगम् वानर इन्द्राणम् प्लवनम् सागरस्य च ।
व्यर्थम् वीक्ष्य अनिल सुतः चिन्ताम् पुनर् उपागमत् ॥ ॥५-१२-२४॥
Udyogam vānara indrāṇam plavanam sāgarasya ca । Vyartham vīkṣya anila sutaḥ cintām punar upāgamat ॥ ॥5-12-24॥
Translation
Seeing the effort of the monkey lords and the crossing of the ocean as futile, the son of the wind fell into anxiety again.

वानर राजों (सुग्रीव आदि) के उद्योग (प्रयास) को और सागर के लांघने को व्यर्थ देखकर, वायुपुत्र पुन: चिंता में पड़ गए।
English Commentary
Hanuman’s despair deepens as he contemplates the macro-consequences of his failure. He reflects on udyogam (the massive mobilization/effort) of the Vanara leaders and his own miraculous feat of plavanam sāgarasya (crossing the ocean). Labeling these monumental acts as vyartham (futile/useless) indicates a severe crisis of confidence. He realizes that without the final result (finding Sita), the means justify nothing. The hero is not worried for his own safety, but for the wasted potential of the entire mission. He spirals back into cintām (anxiety/thought), burdened by the expectations resting on his shoulders.

हनुमान जी की चिंता व्यक्तिगत विफलता से आगे बढ़कर सामूहिक विफलता तक पहुँच जाती है। उन्हें वानर सेना का उत्साह, सुग्रीव की प्रतिज्ञा, अंगद की आशा और स्वयं अपना समुद्र-लंघन—सब 'व्यर्थ' (बेकार) प्रतीत होने लगा। 'पुनर् उपागमत' दर्शाता है कि चिंता की लहरें बार-बार आ रही हैं। एक जिम्मेदार दूत के रूप में, वे केवल अपने श्रम का नहीं, बल्कि संपूर्ण वानर जाति और राम-काज के भविष्य का भार महसूस कर रहे हैं। यदि सीता नहीं मिलीं, तो यह सारा विशाल आयोजन मिट्टी में मिल जाएगा, यही विचार उन्हें व्यथित कर रहा है।
