सा राक्षसानाम् प्रवरेण बाला ।
स्व शील संरक्षण तत् परा सती ।
अनेन नूनम् प्रतिदुष्ट कर्मणा ।
हता भवेद् आर्य पथे परे स्थिता ॥ ॥५-१२-३॥
Sā rākṣasānām pravareṇa bālā |
Sva śīla saṃrakṣaṇa tatparā satī |
Anena nūnam pratiduṣṭa karmaṇā |
Hatā bhaved ārya pathe pare sthitā ॥5-12-3॥
Translation
That young woman (Bala), devoted to protecting her chastity, a virtuous wife standing firm on the path of the Aryas (righteousness), has surely been killed by this chief of demons given to wicked deeds.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह बाला (सीता) अपने शील (चरित्र) की रक्षा में तत्पर रहने वाली सती और आर्य पथ (धर्म मार्ग) पर स्थित थीं। निश्चय ही इस दुष्ट कर्म करने वाले राक्षसों के राजा (रावण) ने उन्हें मार डाला होगा।
English Commentary
Hanuman hypothesizes the cause of her death based on character analysis. He juxtaposes Sita’s unwavering virtue (Sva śīla saṃrakṣaṇa) with Ravana’s malevolence (Pratiduṣṭa karmaṇā). He deduces a fatal conflict: A chaste woman (Satī) following the Arya patha (the noble path of righteousness) would never submit to Ravana. Consequently, Ravana, being the chief of demons and accustomed to getting his way, would likely have killed her in a fit of rage upon being rejected. This speculation reveals Hanuman’s understanding of the absolute incompatibility between Sita’s Dharma and Ravana’s Adharma. It is a logical, albeit tragic, conclusion derived from the profiles of the victim and the aggressor.
