किम् नु माम् वानराः सर्वे गतम् वक्ष्यन्ति सम्गताः ।
गत्वा तत्र त्वया वीर किम् कृतम् तद् वदस्व नः ॥ ॥५-१२-७॥
Kim nu mām vānarāḥ sarve gatam vakṣyanti saṃgatāḥ |
Gatvā tatra tvayā vīra kim kṛtam tad vadasva naḥ ॥5-12-7॥
Translation
What indeed will all the Vanaras, gathered together, say to me when I return? (They will ask,) "O Hero, having gone there, what was accomplished by you? Tell us that."

जब मैं वापस लौटकर वानरों से मिलूँगा, तो वे सब एकत्रित होकर मुझसे क्या कहेंगे? (वे पूछेंगे) "हे वीर! वहाँ जाकर तुमने क्या किया? हमें बताओ।"
English Commentary
Hanuman visualizes the debriefing scenario upon his return. The anticipation of the question "What have you achieved?" haunts him. The address Vīra (Hero) in his imagination serves as a painful irony; returning without news makes the title hollow. This reflects the burden of expectation. The entire search party is banking on his success. His failure isn't individual; it compromises the collective effort of the southern expeditionary force. This foreshadows the scene later in the epic where the Vanaras actually do wait with bated breath, and highlights Hanuman's deep sense of responsibility towards his peers.

हनुमान जी अब अपने साथियों (अंगद, जाम्बवान आदि) के बारे में सोच रहे हैं जो समुद्र के उस पार उनकी प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं। यह 'सामाजिक दबाव' (Social Pressure) और 'जवाबदेही' (Accountability) का प्रश्न है। वे वानर उन्हें 'वीर' कहकर संबोधित करेंगे, जो उस समय हनुमान जी के लिए एक व्यंग्य जैसा प्रतीत होगा यदि वे खाली हाथ लौटे। एक वीर का कर्तव्य है कार्य सिद्ध करना। हनुमान जी कल्पना करते हैं कि वे उस प्रश्न का सामना कैसे करेंगे—"किम् कृतम्?" (क्या किया?)। यदि उत्तर 'कुछ नहीं' है, तो यह उनके अब तक के अर्जित यश और प्रतिष्ठा का नाश कर देगा। यह श्लोक सिद्ध करता है कि हनुमान जी केवल राम के प्रति ही नहीं, बल्कि अपने समाज और साथियों के प्रति भी उत्तरदायी हैं।
