विलप्य बहु वैदेही न्यस्तदेहा भविष्यति ।
अथवा निहिता मन्ये रावणस्य निवेशने ॥ ॥५-१३-१५॥
Vilapya bahu Vaidehī nyasta-dehā bhaviṣyati । Athavā nihitā manye Rāvaṇasya niveśane ॥ ॥5-13-15॥
Translation
Wailing profusely, Vaidehi might have cast off her body. Or, I think, she is kept hidden (imprisoned) in Ravana's house.

बहुत विलाप करके वैदेही ने अपना शरीर त्याग दिया होगा? अथवा मैं मानता हूँ कि वह रावण के भवन में (कहीं छिपाकर) रखी गई है।
English Commentary
After exhausting the lists of possible deaths—by accident, suicide, cannibalism, or grief—Hanuman returns to a sliver of hope. While he first reiterates the possibility of her dying from wailing (vilapya bahu), the second line introduces a crucial alternative: athava (or). He speculates that she might simply be nihita (hidden/deposited) somewhere deep within Ravana’s complex dwelling. This thought steers him away from the conclusion of her death and provides the logical impetus to continue searching in more obscure locations, like the Ashoka Vatika.

नकारात्मक विचारों की श्रृंखला के अंत में, हनुमान जी पुनः एक संभावना पर लौटते हैं। पहले वे सोचते हैं कि अत्यधिक विलाप (रोने) से शरीर दुर्बल होकर छूट गया होगा ('न्यस्तदेहा')। किन्तु श्लोक के उत्तरार्ध में 'अथवा' (Or) के साथ आशा की एक क्षीण किरण दिखाई देती है—शायद वह मरी नहीं है, बल्कि रावण के विशाल महल में किसी गुप्त स्थान पर 'निहिता' (छिपाकर/कैद करके) रखी गई है। यही वह विचार है जो उन्हें खोज जारी रखने के लिए प्रेरित करेगा। यह श्लोक निराशा और आशा के बीच का संधि-स्थल है।
