रामस्य प्रियभार्यस्य न निवेदयितुं क्षमम् ।
निवेद्यमाने दोषः स्याद् दोषः स्यादनिवेदने ॥ ॥५-१३-१८॥
Rāmasya priya-bhāryasya na nivedayituṃ kṣamam । Nivedyamāne doṣaḥ syād doṣaḥ syād anivedane ॥ ॥5-13-18॥
Translation
It is not appropriate to report this (failure) to Rama, who loves his wife dearly. There is fault in reporting it, and there is fault in not reporting it.

अपनी पत्नी से प्रेम करने वाले राम को (सीता के न मिलने का) समाचार देना उचित नहीं है। यह बताने में भी दोष है, और न बताने में भी दोष है।
English Commentary
Hanuman faces a profound ethical and administrative dilemma. As a dutiful messenger (duta), his mandate is to report the truth. However, as a devotee (bhakta), his desire is to protect Rama from pain. He realizes that the news he carries is potentially lethal. Nivedyamane doshah (harm in reporting) refers to the shock it will cause Rama. Anivedane doshah (harm in not reporting) refers to the dereliction of duty. This captures the burden of leadership and responsibility—where every option leads to a negative outcome.

यहाँ हनुमान जी 'धर्मसंकट' (Dilemma) का सामना कर रहे हैं। इसे 'उभयतः पाश रज्जु' (दोनों तरफ फंदा) की स्थिति कहते हैं। यदि वे जाकर सत्य कहते हैं कि सीता नहीं मिलीं या मृत हो सकती हैं, तो राम प्राण त्याग देंगे—यह 'दोष' है। यदि वे नहीं बताते और चुप रहते हैं, तो यह स्वामी के प्रति विश्वासघात और कर्तव्य की अवहेलना होगी—यह भी 'दोष' है। एक दूत और सेवक के रूप में यह निर्णय लेना अत्यंत कठिन है कि सत्य का पालन करें या स्वामी के प्राणों की रक्षा।
