भवेदिति मतिं भूयो हनुमान् प्रविचारयन् ।
यदि सीतामदृष्ट्वाऽहं वानरेन्द्रपुरीमितः ॥ ॥५-१३-२०॥
Bhaved iti matiṃ bhūyo Hanūmān pravicārayan । Yadi Sītām adṛṣṭvā ahaṃ Vānarendra-purīm itaḥ ॥ ॥5-13-20॥
Translation
"This is how it will be"—thinking thus repeatedly, Hanuman reflected: "If I return from here to the city of the King of Monkeys without having seen Sita..."

"ऐसा ही हो (यही परिणाम होगा)"—ऐसा बार-बार विचार करते हुए हनुमान सोचने लगे—"यदि मैं सीता को देखे बिना यहाँ से वानरराज (सुग्रीव) की नगरी (किष्किन्धा) को जाऊँ..."
English Commentary
Hanuman engages in a mental simulation of the future. The phrase bhaved iti matim (thinking "this is how it will be") suggests he is visualizing the sequence of cause and effect. He poses the conditional premise: "If I return without Sita..." This sets the stage for the catastrophic chain reaction he envisions in the subsequent verses. It is an exercise in foresight, weighing the cost of aborting the mission.
