प्रवेशश्चैव लङ्काया राक्षसानां च दर्शनम् ।
किं वा वक्ष्यति सुग्रीवो हरयो वा समागताः ॥ ॥५-१३-२२॥
Praveśaḥ ca eva Laṅkāyā rākṣasānāṃ ca darśanam । Kiṃ vā vakṣyati Sugrīvo harayo vā samāgatāḥ ॥ ॥5-13-22॥
Translation
"My entry into Lanka and seeing the Rakshasas (will be in vain). And what will Sugriva or the assembled monkeys say?"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"लंका में मेरा प्रवेश और राक्षसों को देखना (सब व्यर्थ होगा)। और मेरे लौटने पर सुग्रीव या अन्य वानर क्या कहेंगे?"
English Commentary
Hanuman considers the social and political repercussions. The intelligence gathering (entering Lanka, seeing demons) is valueless without the primary objective. He worries about the reception back home. The phrase Kim va vakshyati (What will they say?) highlights the pressure of expectation. The entire monkey army is banking on his success, and facing them with failure is a humiliating prospect for the crown jewel of the Vanaras.

यहाँ 'लोक-लाज' और 'सामाजिक उत्तरदायित्व' का भाव है। हनुमान जी ने लंका में प्रवेश कर राक्षसों की शक्ति का जो आकलन किया, वह भी सीता के बिना बेकार है। सबसे बड़ी चिंता यह है कि किष्किन्धा में प्रतीक्षा कर रहे सुग्रीव, अंगद और जाम्बवान आदि वानर क्या कहेंगे? 'किं वा वक्ष्यति' (वे क्या कहेंगे?)—यह प्रश्न उन्हें पीड़ा दे रहा है। एक वीर के लिए असफलता का कलंक मृत्यु से भी अधिक कष्टकारी होता है।
