न दृष्टेति मया सीता ततस्त्यक्ष्यति जीवितम् ।
परुषं दारुणं क्रूरं तीक्ष्णमिन्द्रियतापनम् ॥ ॥५-१३-२४॥
Na dṛṣṭā iti mayā Sītā tataḥ tyakṣyati jīvitam । Paruṣaṃ dāruṇaṃ krūraṃ tīkṣṇam indriya-tāpanam ॥ ॥5-13-24॥
Translation
"...that 'Sita was not seen by me', then he will give up his life. (Such words are) harsh, terrible, cruel, sharp, and tormenting to the senses.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"...कि 'मैने सीता को नहीं देखा'। यह सुनते ही वे प्राण त्याग देंगे। यह वचन कठोर, दारुण, क्रूर, तीखा और इन्द्रियों को संताप देने वाला होगा।"
English Commentary
Hanuman analyzes the specific message "Sita was not seen" (Na drishta iti maya Sita). He predicts immediate causality: tyakshyati jivitam (he will abandon life). The adjectives describing this report—parusham (harsh), darunam (dreadful), kruram (cruel), tikshnam (sharp), indriya-tapanam (scorching the senses)—illustrate that bad news can be as physically damaging as a weapon. Hanuman recoils from being the instrument of such cruelty.
