भृशानुरक्तो मेधावी न भविष्यति लक्ष्मणः ।
विनष्टौ भ्रातरौ श्रुत्वा भरतोऽपि मरिष्यति ॥ ॥५-१३-२६॥
Bhṛśa-anurakto medhāvī na bhaviṣyati Lakṣmaṇaḥ । Vinaṣṭau bhrātarau śrutvā Bharato api mariṣyati ॥ ॥5-13-26॥
Translation
"...then the wise Lakshmana, who is deeply devoted, will not survive. And hearing that his two brothers are lost, Bharata too will die."

"...तो (राम के प्रति) अत्यधिक प्रेम रखने वाले बुद्धिमान लक्ष्मण भी जीवित नहीं रहेंगे। और दोनों भाइयों को नष्ट (मृत) हुआ सुनकर भरत भी मर जायेंगे।"
English Commentary
The tragedy cascades. Lakshmana is described as bhrisha-anurakto (excessively devoted); his existence is derivative of Rama's. Even though he is medhavi (intelligent/wise), his emotional bond supersedes his intellect, and he will follow Rama in death. The news will then travel to Ayodhya, where Bharata, waiting for the return of his brothers, will succumb to the shock of losing both (vinashtau bhratarau). Hanuman sees the brotherhood, the core of the epic, unraveling completely.

राम के बाद लक्ष्मण का नंबर है। लक्ष्मण 'भृशानुरक्तो' (अत्यधिक प्रेमी/भक्त) हैं, उनका जीवन राम के बिना असंभव है। 'मेधावी' (बुद्धिमान) होने के बावजूद, प्रेम के वशीभूत होकर वे प्राण त्याग देंगे। तत्पश्चात, अयोध्या में नंदीग्राम में तपस्या कर रहे भरत, जब यह सुनेंगे कि राम और लक्ष्मण दोनों नहीं रहे ('विनष्टौ भ्रातरौ'), तो उनका जीवन प्रयोजन भी समाप्त हो जाएगा। यह रघुकुल के विनाश का भयानक दृश्य है।
