लोडिता वसुधा सर्वा न च पश्यामि जानकीम् ।
इह सम्पातिना सीता रावणस्य निवेशने ॥ ॥५-१३-५॥
Loḍitā vasudhā sarvā na ca paśyāmi Jānakīm । Iha Sampātinā Sītā Rāvaṇasya niveśane ॥ ॥5-13-5॥
Translation
I have churned the entire earth, yet I do not see Janaki. Sampati had stated that Sita is here, in Ravana's dwelling.

मैंने पूरी पृथ्वी छान मारी, किन्तु जानकी को नहीं देख पा रहा हूँ। सम्पाती ने कहा था कि सीता यहीं रावण के भवन में हैं।
English Commentary
Here, Hanuman faces a cognitive dissonance between authoritative testimony (shabda pramana) and empirical observation (pratyaksha pramana). Sampati, the vulture king, had definitively stated Sita was in Ravana's abode. However, despite "churning the earth" (lodita vasudha)—a metaphor for an intense, upheaval-causing search—Hanuman cannot find her. This discrepancy drives him into deep anxiety. He begins to question not the truth of Sampati's words, but the current status of Sita’s existence. This moment marks the transition from physical exhaustion to psychological turmoil.

यहाँ हनुमान जी के मन में 'आप्तवचन' (विश्वसनीय व्यक्ति के कथन) और 'प्रत्यक्ष प्रमाण' के बीच द्वंद्व उत्पन्न हो रहा है। सम्पाती, जो एक सिद्ध और वृद्ध गृध्रराज थे, उनका वचन असत्य नहीं हो सकता, परन्तु प्रत्यक्ष में हनुमान जी को सीता जी की प्राप्ति नहीं हो रही है। 'लोडिता वसुधा' (पृथ्वी को मथ डालना) मुहावरे का प्रयोग उनके भगीरथ प्रयास को दर्शाता है। यह श्लोक हनुमान जी के मानसिक क्लेश को रेखांकित करता है—एक ओर सम्पाती की सूचना है, और दूसरी ओर उनकी अपनी विफलता। यह संशय की स्थिति ही अगले श्लोकों में उनकी नकारात्मक कल्पनाओं का आधार बनती है।
