आख्याता गृध्रराजेन न च पश्यामि तामहम् ।
किं नु सीता अथ वैदेही मैथिली जनकात्मजा ॥ ॥५-१३-६॥
Ākhyātā gṛdhrarājena na ca paśyāmi tām aham । Kiṃ nu Sītā atha Vaidehī Maithilī Janakātmajā ॥ ॥5-13-6॥
Translation
Although told by the King of Vultures, I do not see her. What has become of Sita, Vaidehi, Maithili, the daughter of Janaka?

गृध्रराज (सम्पाती) द्वारा बताए जाने पर भी मैं उन्हें नहीं देख पा रहा हूँ। क्या सीता, वैदेही, मैथिली, जनकनन्दिनी (नष्ट हो गईं)?
English Commentary
The invocation of Sita’s various epithets—Vaidehi (Princess of Videha), Maithili (Princess of Mithila), and Janakatmaja (Daughter of Janaka)—is poignant. Hanuman uses these titles to recall her nobility, lineage, and the tragic irony that a woman of such high birth is now lost without a trace. It reflects his deep reverence and empathy. The phrase Kim nu introduces a rhetorical questioning of her fate, suggesting that perhaps destiny has dealt a cruel blow to the daughter of the pious King Janaka. This accumulation of names serves to heighten the pathos of the situation.

इस श्लोक में हनुमान जी द्वारा सीता जी के लिए प्रयुक्त विभिन्न नाम—सीता, वैदेही, मैथिली, जनकात्मजा—अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण हैं। ये केवल नाम नहीं, अपितु उनके उच्च कुल, संस्कार और राजसी वैभव के प्रतीक हैं। हनुमान जी इन नामों का स्मरण कर यह सोच रहे हैं कि इतने महान कुलों (विदेह और जनक) से सम्बन्ध रखने वाली देवी की ऐसी अज्ञात स्थिति कैसे हो सकती है? 'किं नु' (क्या हुआ होगा) एक अनिष्ट की आशंका का सूचक है। यहाँ शोक का वेग इतना अधिक है कि वे एक ही श्लोक में उनके अनेक सम्बोधनों का स्मरण कर उनके अस्तित्व के प्रति चिंतित हो रहे हैं।
