न मत् कृते विनश्येयुः सर्वे ते नर वानराः ।
अशोक वनिका च अपि महती इयम् महा द्रुमा ॥५-१३-५५॥
na mat kṛte vinaśyeyuḥ sarve te nara vānarāḥ |
aśoka vanikā ca api mahatī iyam mahā drumā ॥5-13-55॥
Translation
"Let not all those men and Vanaras perish on my account. (Thinking thus, he saw:) Here is also a great Ashoka grove with huge trees."

"मेरे कारण वे सभी नर (राम-लक्ष्मण) और वानर विनाश को प्राप्त न हों। (यह विचार करते हुए उनकी दृष्टि पड़ी)—यह विशाल वृक्षों वाली एक महती अशोक वाटिका भी तो यहाँ है।"
English Commentary
The first half of the verse reinforces Hanuman's selflessness ("Let them not perish on my account"). It is precisely in this moment of supreme altruism that his eyes land on the solution: the Ashoka Vatika. The text describes it as mahatī (great/extensive) and mahā drumā (full of great trees). Structurally, this is significant—the solution appears only after he completely abandons selfishness and fear of personal death, focusing solely on the welfare of others. The mention of the Ashoka grove here bridges his internal monologue with the external physical reality, setting the stage for the discovery of Sita.

इस श्लोक के पूर्वार्ध में हनुमान जी की करुणा और जिम्मेदारी का भाव है—वे नहीं चाहते कि उनकी असफलता का दंड पूरी वानर जाति और रघुकुल को मिले। और ठीक इसी क्षण, जब वे निस्वार्थ भाव से सोच रहे होते हैं, उन्हें आशा की एक किरण दिखाई देती है। 'अशोक वनिका' का दिखना आकस्मिक नहीं है; यह उनके शुद्ध अंतःकरण और संकल्प का फल है। जब व्यक्ति 'मम' (मेरा) छोड़कर 'परहित' (दूसरों का भला) सोचता है, तब ईश्वर मार्ग दिखाता है। 'महती इयम् महा द्रुमा' (यह महान और विशाल वृक्षों वाली) अशोक वाटिका उनकी खोज का अंतिम और अब तक अनदेखा स्थान है। यह कथा का एक नया मोड़ है जहाँ से सफलता की ओर यात्रा आरम्भ होती है।
