ध्रुवम् तु रक्षो बहुला भविष्यति वन आकुला ।
अशोक वनिका चिन्त्या सर्व सम्स्कार सम्स्कृता ॥५-१३-६२॥
dhruvam tu rakṣo bahulā bhaviṣyati vana ākulā |
aśoka vanikā cintyā sarva samskāra samskṛtā ॥5-13-62॥
Translation
(He thought) "Certainly, this Ashoka grove will be teeming with demons and crowded with trees. It must be well-maintained with all refinements and worthy of admiration/thought."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(वे सोचने लगे) "निश्चित ही यह अशोक वाटिका बहुत से राक्षसों से भरी होगी (रक्षो बहुला) और वृक्षों से घनी (वन आकुला) होगी। यह वाटिका हर प्रकार के संस्कारों (सजावट/देखभाल) से युक्त और चिंतनीय (रमणीय/रहस्यमय) होगी।"
English Commentary
Hanuman engages in predictive analysis. He deduces the nature of the terrain before setting foot in it. He expects it to be rakṣo bahulā (heavy with demon presence/guards) and vana ākulā (dense with vegetation). He also anticipates high aesthetics—sarva samskāra samskṛtā (refined with all cultures/decorations), implying it is a royal garden, likely Ravana's favorite. This deduction helps him prepare for a stealth operation: the density of trees offers cover, but the density of demons offers danger. He is mentally mapping the risks (guards) against the opportunities (hiding spots).

हनुमान जी यहाँ 'पूर्वानुमान' (Anticipation) लगा रहे हैं। चूँकि यह शाही वाटिका है, इसलिए वे अनुमान लगाते हैं कि यह 'सर्व सम्स्कार सम्स्कृता' (सभी प्रकार से सुसज्जित और परिष्कृत) होगी। साथ ही, वे खतरे का भी आंकलन कर रहे हैं—'रक्षो बहुला' (राक्षसों की भीड़)। यह यथार्थवादी सोच है। वे जानते हैं कि सुंदरता के साथ-साथ वहां सुरक्षा भी कड़ी होगी। 'चिन्त्या' शब्द का अर्थ यहाँ 'विस्मयकारी' या 'जिसका सौंदर्य चिंतन योग्य हो' है। वे अपने मन को तैयार कर रहे हैं कि वहां उन्हें सौंदर्य और शत्रु, दोनों का सामना प्रचुर मात्रा में करना पड़ेगा।
