Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
निर्धूत पत्र शिखराः शीर्ण पुष्प फल द्रुमाः ।
निक्षिप्त वस्त्र आभरणा धूर्ता इव पराजिताः ॥ ॥५-१४-१५॥
nirdhūta patra śikharāḥ śīrṇa puṣpa phala drumāḥ । nikṣipta vastra ābharaṇā dhūर्ता iva parājitāḥ ॥ ॥5-14-15॥
Translation
With their leafy tops shaken and their flowers and fruits fallen, the trees looked like defeated gamblers stripped of their clothes and ornaments.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिनके पत्ते और शिखर हिल गए हैं, तथा जिनके फूल और फल झड़ गए हैं, वे वृक्ष ऐसे लग रहे थे मानो जुए में हारे हुए जुआरी (धूर्त) हों, जिनके वस्त्र और आभूषण उतार लिए गए हों।
English Commentary
Valmiki employs a striking simile here: the trees are compared to dhūrtā iva parājitāḥ (defeated gamblers). Just as a gambler losing a high-stakes game might be stripped of his finery and wealth, the trees have been stripped of their patra (leaves), puṣpa (flowers), and phala (fruits) by the gale of Hanuman's passage. This anthropomorphism attributes a sense of loss and destitution to the trees. It serves as a testament to Hanuman’s raw power—he does not just disturb the trees; he effectively "loots" them of their natural wealth merely by passing through.
