Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विधूत केशी युवतिर् यथा मृदित वर्णिका ।
निष्पीत शुभ दन्त ओष्ठी नखैर् दन्तैः च विक्षता ॥ ॥५-१४-१८॥
vidhūta keśī yuvatir yathā mṛdita varṇikā । niṣpīta śubha danta oṣṭhī nakhair dantaiḥ ca vikṣatā ॥ ॥5-14-18॥
Translation
The garden looked like a young woman with disheveled hair, with her makeup smudged, her beautiful lips kissed pale, and marked with scratches from nails and teeth.

(हनुमान के कारण उजड़ी हुई) वह वाटिका उस युवती के समान लग रही थी जिसके बाल बिखरे हुए हों, जिसका तिलक/मेकअप मिट गया हो, जिसके सुंदर अधरों का रस पी लिया गया हो, और जो नख तथा दांतों के चिह्नों से घायल हो।
English Commentary
This is a daring and classically poetic simile rooted in the shṛṅgāra tradition. The disarray of the garden is compared to a yuvati (young woman) after passionate intimacy. Specifically: Vidhūta keśī (disheveled hair) parallels the scattered foliage. Mṛdita varṇikā (smudged makeup/sandalwood paste) parallels the crushed flowers and pollen. Nakhair dantaiḥ ca vikṣatā (marked by nails and teeth) parallels the scratched bark and broken twigs. This metaphor transforms the violence of Hanuman’s movement into an image of passionate interaction, suggesting that the "ravaging" of the garden has a raw, intimate intensity.
