कुर्वन्तीम् प्रभया देवीम् सर्वा वितिमिरा दिशः ।
ताम् नील केशीम् बिम्ब ओष्ठीम् सुमध्याम् सुप्रतिष्ठिताम् ॥५-१५-२९॥
kurvantīm prabhayā devīm sarvā vitimirā diśaḥ । tām nīla keśīm bimba oṣṭhīm sumadhyām supratiṣṭhitām ॥ ॥5-15-29॥
Translation
She who was dispelling the darkness of all directions with her radiance; she with black hair, lips red like the Bimba fruit, a beautiful waist, and perfectly proportioned limbs.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो अपनी प्रभा (तेज) से सभी दिशाओं को अंधकार रहित (प्रकाशित) कर रही थीं। जिनके केश काले थे, होंठ बिम्बाफल के समान लाल थे, कटि (कमर) सुंदर थी और जो सुगठित अंगों वाली थीं।
English Commentary
Even in captivity, Sita is described as Devi—the shining one. Her internal radiance (tejas) derived from her chastity is so powerful that it metaphorically dispels the darkness of her surroundings. The physical descriptions—raven hair, red lips, slender waist—are classical marks of perfection in Sanskrit poetics (Samudrika Shastra). The verse emphasizes that external suffering cannot diminish her innate divine glow.
हिंदी टीका
सीता जी 'देवी' हैं, जिसका अर्थ है द्योतनशील या प्रकाशमान। अशोक वाटिका के अंधकार और राक्षसी वातावरण में भी उनका 'पातिव्रत्य तेज' दिशाओं को प्रकाशित कर रहा है। 'नील केशीम्' और 'बिम्ब ओष्ठीम्' सामुद्रिक शास्त्र के अनुसार उत्तम स्त्री के लक्षण हैं। 'सुप्रतिष्ठिताम्' का अर्थ है कि उनके अंग विन्यास में कोई दोष नहीं है। यह श्लोक यह भी व्यंजित करता है कि रावण की लंका का ऐश्वर्य सीता के तेज के सामने फीका है।
