Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दुह्खेन बुबुधे सीताम् हनुमान् अनलम्कृताम् ।
सम्स्कारेण यथा हीनाम् वाचम् अर्थ अन्तरम् गताम् ॥५-१५-३९॥
duhkhena bubudhe sītām hanumān analamkṛtām । samskāreṇa yathā hīnām vācam artha antaram gatām ॥ ॥5-15-39॥
Translation
Hanuman recognized the unadorned Sita with great difficulty, just as speech devoid of grammatical polish (Samskara) takes on a different meaning (or becomes obscure).

हनुमान जी ने आभूषणों से रहित सीता जी को बहुत कठिनाई से पहचाना, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे व्याकरण (संस्कार) से हीन वाणी (शब्द) दूसरे अर्थ को प्राप्त हो जाती है।
English Commentary
This is a celebrated simile in Sanskrit literature, reflecting Hanuman’s status as the supreme grammarian (Navavyakaranavetta). He compares Sita to Vāc (speech) and her ornaments to Saṃskāra (grammatical refinement). Just as unrefined speech can convey a distorted meaning (artha antaram) or is hard to interpret, Sita, stripped of her royal insignia, is difficult to identify. However, the core "meaning" (her identity) remains unchanged, just obscured by the lack of external polish. It highlights the intellectual depth of Hanuman’s observation.

यह वाल्मीकि रामायण की सबसे प्रसिद्ध और विद्वतापूर्ण उपमाओं में से एक है। यहाँ सीता की तुलना 'वाणी' (भाषा) से और आभूषणों की तुलना 'व्याकरण/संस्कार' से की गई है। जैसे व्याकरण के बिना शब्द अपना सही अर्थ खो देते हैं या गलत समझे जाते हैं, वैसे ही राजसी श्रृंगार के बिना सीता को पहचानना कठिन हो रहा था। यह श्लोक हनुमान जी की विद्वता को भी दर्शाता है, क्योंकि एक वैयाकरण (grammarian) ही ऐसी उपमा सोच सकता है। सीता 'अर्थ' (meaning) हैं जो अभी भी वही हैं, परन्तु उनका 'रूप' (form) बदल गया है।
