Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इयम् सा यत् कृते रामः चतुर्भिः परितप्यते ।
कारुण्येन आनृशम्स्येन शोकेन मदनेन च ॥५-१५-४९॥
iyam sā yat kṛte rāmaḥ caturbhiḥ paritapyate । kāruṇyena ānṛśaṃsyena śokena madanena ca ॥ ॥5-15-49॥
Translation
This is she on whose account Rama is tormented by four things: Compassion, Kindness (obligation to protect), Grief, and Love.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यह वही हैं जिनके लिए राम चार कारणों से संताप करते हैं—करुणा से, आनृशंस्य (दया/आश्रित-रक्षा) से, शोक से और काम (प्रेम) से।
English Commentary
Hanuman analyzes the composite nature of Rama’s suffering. It is not a singular emotion but a complex mixture of four distinct sentiments (caturbhiḥ). Identifying Sita as the sole cause (yat kṛte) of this fourfold torment, Hanuman realizes the magnitude of her importance. This sets the stage for the next verse which defines these four distinct emotional layers connecting the Hero and the Heroine.

हनुमान जी यहाँ राम की पीड़ा का मनोवैज्ञानिक विश्लेषण करते हैं। राम का दुख केवल 'पति' का दुख नहीं है, वह चार भावों का मिश्रण है। हनुमान जी ने राम को निकट से देखा है, इसलिए वे जानते हैं कि राम 'चतुर्भिः' (चार प्रकार से) जल रहे हैं। अगले श्लोक में इन चारों को परिभाषित किया गया है। यह वाल्मीकि की मनोविज्ञान में गहरी पैठ को दर्शाता है।
