सा इयम् कनक वर्ण अन्गी नित्यम् सुस्मित भाषिणी ।
सहते यातनाम् एताम् अनर्थानाम् अभागिनी ॥५-१६-२१॥
sā iyam kanaka varṇa angī nityam susmita bhāṣiṇī |
sahate yātanām etām anarthānām abhāginī ॥5-16-21॥
Translation
This is she of golden limbs, who always spoke with a gentle smile; though unworthy of such calamities, she now endures this torment.
हिंदी अनुवाद
ये वही सुवर्ण-जैसे अंगों वाली और सदा मन्द मुस्कान के साथ बोलने वाली (सीता) हैं, जो आज इस भीषण यंत्रणा को सह रही हैं, जबकि वे ऐसी आपत्तियों (अनर्थों) के योग्य कदापि नहीं थीं।
English Commentary
Hanuman contrasts Sita’s inherent nature with her current plight. She is described as kanaka varṇa angī (possessing limbs of golden hue) and susmita bhāṣiṇī (one who speaks with a smile), epitomizing grace, beauty, and warmth. However, she is now enduring yātanām (torture/agony). Hanuman notes the injustice of this situation with the phrase anarthānām abhāginī—she is structurally and karmically 'unworthy' of such calamities. It highlights the tragedy that one so pure and gentle is subjected to such harsh realities, evoking deep pathos (Karuna Rasa).

हनुमान जी यहाँ सीता के पूर्व स्वरूप और वर्तमान स्थिति के बीच के विरोधाभास पर चिंतन कर रहे हैं। 'कनक वर्ण अन्गी' (सोने जैसे रंग वाली) और 'सुस्मित भाषिणी' (मुस्कुरा कर बोलने वाली)—ये विशेषण उनके सुखद अतीत और कोमल स्वभाव को दर्शाते हैं। किन्तु आज वही कोमल देह 'यातनाम्' (कष्ट) सह रही है। हनुमान जी कहते हैं कि वे 'अनर्थानाम् अभागिनी' हैं, अर्थात वे कष्ट की भागीदार होने योग्य नहीं हैं। यह नियति की क्रूरता है कि जो केवल सुख और सम्मान की पात्र थी, उसे इतना दुख भोगना पड़ रहा है।
