Translation
Their bodies were smeared with flesh and blood, and they fed on flesh and blood. The best of monkeys (Hanuman) saw those Rakshasis, whose appearance caused one's hair to stand on end.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उनके शरीर मांस और खून से सने हुए थे और वे मांस-रक्त का ही भोजन करती थीं। वानरश्रेष्ठ हनुमान ने उन रोंगटे खड़े कर देने वाली (भयानक) राक्षसियों को देखा।
English Commentary
The visual imagery reaches a peak of gruesomeness here. The guards are not just eating meat; they are physically smeared with blood and gore, suggesting a savage, cannibalistic existence devoid of hygiene or civilization. The poet notes Hanuman's reaction—he, the Kapishreshtha (best of monkeys) and a fearless warrior, found the sight romaharṣaṇa (hair-raising). This reaction serves a literary purpose: to calibrate the horror. If a mighty being like Hanuman finds them terrifying, the reader can only imagine the terror felt by the gentle Princess Sita, amplifying our empathy for her plight.

वीभत्स रस यहाँ अपनी चरम सीमा पर है। राक्षसियों के शरीर पर लगा रक्त और मांस यह बताता है कि वे न केवल मांसाहारी हैं, बल्कि सभ्यता से पूरी तरह दूर, जंगली अवस्था में हैं। हनुमान जी, जो स्वयं महाबलशाली और वीर हैं, उनके लिए भी यह दृश्य 'रोमहर्षण' (रोम-रोम पुलकित/खड़े करने वाला) था। यदि हनुमान जैसा योद्धा उन्हें देखकर विचलित हो सकता है, तो सुकुमारी सीता की क्या मनोदशा होगी, इसकी कल्पना ही सिहरन पैदा करती है। यह श्लोक हनुमान के दृष्टिकोण से राक्षसियों की भयानकता को प्रमाणित करता है।
