तथा विप्रेक्षणाणस्य वनम् पुष्पितपादपम् ।
विचिन्वतश्च वैदेहीम् किंचिच्चेषा निशाभवत् ।

tathā viprekṣamāṇasya vanam puṣpitapādapam |
vicinvataśca vaidehīm kiṃcicceṣā niśābhavat ॥5-18-1॥
Translation
While he was thus observing the forest with its flowering trees and searching for Vaidehi, only a small part of that night remained.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(18वाँ सर्ग प्रारम्भ) इस प्रकार फूले हुए वृक्षों वाले वन को देखते हुए और वैदेही (सीता) को खोजते हुए (हनुमान जी के लिए) वह रात्रि थोड़ी ही शेष रह गई।
English Commentary
Opening the 18th Sarga, this verse sets the temporal context. The night is almost over (kiṃcicceṣā niśābhavat), indicating the approach of dawn (Brahma Muhurta). Hanuman has spent the time actively searching and observing the flowering forest (vanam puṣpitapādapam). The transition of time is crucial here because in Sanskrit epics, dawn often brings significant events. The specific mention of searching for Vaidehi links the previous visual descriptions to the passage of time. It builds suspense, as the cover of darkness is fading, and the risks for Hanuman are about to increase.

यहाँ से 18वें सर्ग का आरम्भ होता है। श्लोक समय के परिवर्तन को दर्शाता है। हनुमान जी पूरी रात अशोक वाटिका में सीता को ढूँढते और निरीक्षण करते रहे। 'विचिन्वतश्च' (खोजते/विचार करते हुए) क्रिया बताती है कि यह केवल शारीरिक खोज नहीं थी, बल्कि मानसिक मंथन भी था। 'किंचिच्चेषा निशाभवत्' (रात्रि थोड़ी ही शेष बची) एक नाटकीय मोड़ का संकेत है—प्रातःकाल होने वाला है, जो अपने साथ नई घटनाएँ (रावण का आगमन) लेकर आएगा। 'पुष्पितपादपम्' (फूले हुए वृक्ष) पृष्ठभूमि में प्रकृति की सुंदरता को बनाए रखते हैं, जो आने वाली घटनाओं की क्रूरता के विपरीत है।
