व्याविद्धहारकेयूराः समामृदितवर्णकाः ।
समागलितकेशान्ताः सस्वेदवदनास्तथा ।

vyāviddhahārakeyūrāḥ samāmṛdaitavarṇakāḥ |
samāgalitakeśāntāḥ sasvedavadanāstathā ॥5-18-16॥
Translation
Their necklaces and armlets were disarrayed, their body paints (sandalwood paste) were rubbed off, their hair was loosened, and their faces were covered in sweat.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(जल्दबाजी और नशे के कारण) उनके हार और बाजूबंद (केयूर) उलझ गए थे, अंगों पर लगा चंदन/अंगराग मिट गया था, बाल बिखर गए थे और उनके चेहरे पसीने से युक्त थे।
English Commentary
This verse details the disheveled state of the wives, adding realism to the scene. Their jewelry is tangled (vyāviddha), makeup smudged (samāmṛditavarṇakāḥ), and hair loose (samāgalitakeśāntāḥ), suggesting they rushed to accompany Ravana immediately upon his waking, without time to compose themselves fully. The sweat on their faces (sasvedavadanāḥ) could imply the physical exertion of walking or the lingering heat of intoxication. It paints a picture of frantic devotion and the chaotic aftermath of a night of revelry, contrasting with the disciplined austerity of Sita described earlier.

यह श्लोक उन स्त्रियों की अस्त-व्यस्त स्थिति का वर्णन करता है। रावण के अचानक चल देने के कारण उन्हें भी हड़बड़ी में पीछे आना पड़ा। 'व्याविद्ध' (उलझे हुए) आभूषण और 'समामृदित' (मिटे हुए) वर्णक (अंगराग/makeup) विलास-क्रीड़ा या नींद के बाद की स्थिति को दर्शाते हैं। 'सस्वेदवदनाः' (पसीने से युक्त चेहरे) उनकी शारीरिक थकान या रावण के साथ कदम ताल मिलाने के प्रयास को दिखाते हैं। यह यथार्थवादी चित्रण उस समय के राजसी जीवन के 'अंतःपुर' की एक झांकी प्रस्तुत करता है, जहाँ रानियाँ राजा की छाया की तरह होती थीं।
