दीपिकाभिरनेकाभिः समन्तादवभासितम् ।
गन्धतैलावसिक्ताभिर्द्रियमाणाभिरग्रतः ।

Dīpikābhiranekābhiḥ samantādavabhāsitam |
Gandhatailāvasiktābhir-driyamāṇābhiragrataḥ ॥5-18-22॥
Translation
He was illuminated on all sides by many lamps (torches) fueled with scented oil, which were being carried in front of him.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह (रावण) चारों ओर से अनेक मशालों (दीपिकाओं) से प्रकाशित था, जिनमें सुगंधित तेल (गन्धतैल) डाला गया था और जो (सेवकों द्वारा) उसके आगे-आगे ले जाई जा रही थीं।
English Commentary
The visual imagery here is striking. Ravana does not walk in darkness; he carries his own artificial light with him, symbolizing his power and ego. The detail of gandhataila (scented oil) for the torches adds an olfactory dimension to the scene, emphasizing extreme luxury even in simple logistical matters like lighting. The phrase samantādavabhāsitam (illuminated on all sides) creates a spotlight effect, focusing all attention on the Demon King.
