Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
उग्रौजसो महावीर्या बलवन्तश्च राक्षसाः ।
वञ्चनीया मया सर्वे जानकीं परिमार्गता ॥ ॥५-२-३४॥
Ugraujaso mahāvīryā balavantaśca rākṣasāḥ । Vañcanīyā mayā sarve jānakīṃ parimārgatā ॥ ॥5-2-34॥
Translation
These Rakshasas are of fierce energy, great valor, and strength; therefore, while searching for Janaki, I must deceive them all.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अर्थ: ये सभी राक्षस उग्र तेज वाले, महापराक्रमी और बलवान हैं; अत: जानकी (सीता) को खोजते हुए मुझे इन सबको धोखा देना (छलना) होगा।
English Commentary
Hanuman acknowledges the formidable nature of his adversaries—ugraujaso (fierce energy) and mahāvīryā (great valor). He concludes that avoidance is better than engagement. The term vañcanīyā (must be deceived/tricked) indicates his strategy shifts to stealth and camouflage. The primary mission is jānakīṃ parimārgatā (searching for Janaki), and engaging in combat would distract from this goal. He resolves to outwit rather than outfight the guards.

टिप्पणी: 'वञ्चनीया' (धोखा देना/छलना) शब्द यहाँ महत्वपूर्ण है। धर्मयुद्ध में छल वर्जित हो सकता है, किन्तु 'कूटयुद्ध' या गुप्तचरी में यह आवश्यक है। हनुमान शत्रु की शक्ति ('उग्रौजसो' - उग्र ऊर्जा वाले) को कम नहीं आंकते। वे समझते हैं कि सफलता 'संघर्ष' (Confrontation) में नहीं, बल्कि 'वंचना' (Deception/Evasion) में है। उनका लक्ष्य सीता को ढूँढना है, राक्षसों को मारना अभी गौण है।
