न हि शक्यं क्वचित् स्थातुमविज्ञातेन राक्षसैः ।
अपि राक्षसरूपेण किमुतान्येन केनचित् ॥ ॥५-२-४३॥
Na hi śakyaṃ kvacit sthātumavijñātena rākṣasaiḥ । Api rākṣasarūpeṇa kimutānyena kenacit ॥ ॥5-2-43॥
Translation
It is not possible to remain anywhere without being detected by the Rakshasas. Even in the guise of a Rakshasa, it is difficult to remain unknown, let alone in any other form.

राक्षसों द्वारा पहचाने गए बिना कहीं भी ठहरना संभव नहीं है। यहाँ तक कि राक्षस का रूप धारण करके भी अज्ञात रहना कठिन है, फिर किसी अन्य रूप की तो बात ही क्या है।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Hanuman’s astute strategic assessment of Lanka’s counter-intelligence capabilities. He realizes that Ravana’s city is under constant surveillance. The phrase na hi śakyaṃ (it is not indeed possible) underscores the omnipresence of the Rakshasa guards. Hanuman reasons that mere physical disguise as a Rakshasa is insufficient because the demonic community is tight-knit; a stranger would be instantly spotted. If fitting in as a Rakshasa is risky, appearing as a Vanara (monkey) or human would be suicidal. This internal monologue serves to justify his decision to undergo a supernatural transformation. It establishes Hanuman not just as a warrior of immense strength, but as a spy of superior intellect (buddhimatāṃ variṣṭham).

इस श्लोक में हनुमान जी की सूक्ष्म बुद्धि और लंका की सुरक्षा व्यवस्था के प्रति उनकी सतर्कता का परिचय मिलता है। हनुमान जी यह भाँप लेते हैं कि रावण की लंका मात्र एक विलासी नगरी नहीं, बल्कि एक पुलिस राज्य (police state) है जहाँ गुप्तचर व्यवस्था अत्यंत सुदृढ़ है। 'न हि शक्यं' पद उनकी विवशता नहीं, बल्कि यथार्थवादी मूल्यांकन को दर्शाता है। वे विचार करते हैं कि यदि वे मायावी राक्षस का रूप भी धारण कर लें, तब भी वे पहचाने जा सकते हैं, क्योंकि राक्षस एक-दूसरे को जानते हैं और बाहरी व्यक्ति को तुरंत पहचान लेते हैं। वानर रूप में तो पकड़े जाने की संभावना शत-प्रतिशत है। यह श्लोक स्पष्ट करता है कि शत्रु के क्षेत्र में प्रवेश करने से पूर्व, बल से अधिक 'काल' और 'छद्म' (disguise) का चयन महत्वपूर्ण होता है।
