शाद्वलानि च नीलानि गन्धवन्ति वनानि च ।
गण्डवन्ति च मध्येन जगाम नगवन्ति च ॥ ॥५-२-६॥
śādvalāni ca nīlāni gandhavanti vanāni ca । gaṇḍavanti ca madhyena jagāma nagavanti ca ॥ ॥5-2-6॥
Translation
He passed through dark green grassy lands, fragrant forests, and regions filled with boulders and hills/trees.

वे हरी-भरी नीली घास वाली भूमि (शाद्वल), सुगंधित वनों, चट्टानों (गण्ड) और वृक्षों/पहाड़ियों से युक्त मार्गों के बीच से होकर गए।
English Commentary
The poet provides a sensory description of Hanuman's path to the city gates. He traverses Śādvalāni (lush grassy lawns), Gandhavanti vanāni (perfumed forests), and terrains that are Gaṇḍavanti (rocky/bouldered) and Nagavanti (mountainous or full of trees). This contrasts the ruggedness of the wild with the cultivated beauty of Ravana's kingdom. The mention of fragrance implies the presence of flowering gardens and perhaps the opulence of the demon capital wafting through the air.

लंका के बाहरी इलाके (Outskirts) का वर्णन है। 'शाद्वलानि' का अर्थ है हरी घास के मैदान (Lawns/Turf)। 'गन्धवन्ति'—वहाँ के वन सुगंधित थे, जो लंका की समृद्धि और विलासिता का संकेत है। 'गण्डवन्ति' का अर्थ है बड़ी चट्टानें (Boulders) या ऊबड़-खाबड़ रास्ते। हनुमान जी इन सुंदर किन्तु दुर्गम रास्तों से होकर नगर की ओर बढ़ रहे हैं। यह वर्णन बताता है कि लंका केवल एक किला नहीं, बल्कि प्राकृतिक सौंदर्य से भरपूर एक व्यवस्थित द्वीप-राज्य था।
