चलाग्रमकुटः प्रांशुश्चित्रमाल्यानुलेपनः ।
रक्तमाल्याम्बरधरस्तप्ताङ्गदविभूषणः ।

calāgramakuṭaḥ prāṃśuścitramālyānulepanaḥ |
raktamālyāmbaradharastaptāṅgadavibhūṣaṇaḥ ॥5-20-25॥
Translation
The tip of his crown was shaking; he was tall, adorned with wonderful garlands and unguents. He wore red garlands and garments and was decorated with armlets of refined gold.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उसके मुकुट का अग्रभाग हिल रहा था, वह बहुत लंबा था, विचित्र मालाएं और अंगराग (चंदन आदि) धारण किए हुए था। उसने लाल माला और वस्त्र पहने थे और तपे हुए सोने के बाजूबंद से विभूषित था।
English Commentary

रावण के क्रोध के कारण उसका शरीर कांप रहा है, जिससे 'चलाग्रमकुटः' (हिलते हुए मुकुट वाला) विशेषण का प्रयोग हुआ है। लाल रंग (रक्तमाल्याम्बर) यहाँ रजो गुण, क्रोध और मृत्यु का प्रतीक है। 'तप्ताङ्गद' (तपाए हुए सोने के बाजूबंद) उसके वैभव को दिखाते हैं। सीता के सामने एक ओर वनवासी राम की सादगी है (स्मृति में) और दूसरी ओर रावण का यह डरावना राजसी ठाठ-बाट है। यह वर्णन रावण के ऐश्वर्यमयी किन्तु भयानक व्यक्तित्व को उभारता है।
