श्रोणीसूत्रेण महता मेककेन सुसंवृतः ।
अमृतोत्पादनद्धेन भुजङ्गेनेव मन्दरः ।

śroṇīsūtreṇa mahatā mekakena susaṃvṛtaḥ |
amṛtotpādanaddhena bhujaṅgeneva mandaraḥ ॥5-20-26॥
Translation
He was wrapped securely with a great singular waistband, looking like Mount Mandara bound by the serpent (Vasuki) during the churning for Nectar.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह अपनी कमर में एक विशाल करधनी (मेखला) से सुशोभित था, (और ऐसा लग रहा था) जैसे अमृत मंथन के समय मंदराचल पर्वत वासुकी नाग से लपेटा गया हो।
English Commentary
This is a mythological simile characteristic of Valmiki’s style. Ravana’s massive dark torso wrapped in a gold waistband is compared to Mount Mandara wrapped by the serpent Vasuki during the cosmic churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan). This suggests Ravana is as immovable and colossal as a mountain. It also subtly hints at a churn or turbulence, perhaps reflecting the chaos he causes in the world or the turmoil within his own mind.

यहाँ उपमा अलंकार का सुंदर प्रयोग है। रावण का विशाल काला शरीर 'मंदराचल पर्वत' के समान है और उसकी सोने की करधनी 'वासुकी नाग' के समान है। यह उपमा समुद्र मंथन की घटना की याद दिलाती है। यह रावण की स्थिरता, भारीपन और विशालता को दर्शाती है। जैसे मंदराचल को देव-दानवों ने मथा था, वैसे ही रावण के भीतर काम और क्रोध का मंथन चल रहा है।
