Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इति प्रतिसमादिश्य राक्षसेन्द्रः पुनः पुनः ।
काममन्युपरीतात्मा जानकीं पर्यतर्जयत् ।

iti pratisamādiśya rākṣasendraḥ punaḥ punaḥ |
kāmamanyuparītātmā jānakīṃ paryatarjayat ॥5-20-36॥
Translation
Having given these orders repeatedly, the Lord of Rakshasas, his soul overwhelmed by lust and rage, threatened Janaki again.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राक्षसराज रावण ने इस प्रकार बार-बार आदेश देकर, काम और क्रोध से भरे हुए मन से जानकी को (पुनः) धमकाया।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Ravana’s internal chaos. He is kama-manyu-paritatma—possessed completely by both desire and wrath. These conflicting emotions create a volatile state; he desires her, yet he wants to destroy her for rejecting him. His repetitive commands (punah punah) betray his lack of control. Even after delegating the task to the Rakshasis, he cannot resist delivering one final personal threat to Janaki, showcasing his obsessed and tormented state of mind.
हिंदी टीका
आदेश देने के बाद भी रावण शांत नहीं हुआ। 'पुनः पुनः' (बार-बार) आदेश देना उसकी असुरक्षा और बेचैनी को दिखाता है। वह 'काममन्युपरीतात्मा' है—अर्थात उसका मन 'काम' (lust) और 'मन्यु' (क्रोध/rage) दोनों से घिरा हुआ है। काम उसे सीता की ओर खींचता है, और क्रोध उसे सीता को नष्ट करने के लिए उकसाता है। इस द्वंद्व में फंसा रावण जाते-जाते फिर सीता को तर्जित (threaten) करता है, जो उसकी हताशा का प्रमाण है।
