परुषाणि हि वाक्यानि यानि यानि ब्रवीषि माम् ।
तेषु तेषु वधो युक्तस्तव मैथिलि दारुणः ।
।
॥५-२०-६॥
paruṣāṇi hi vākyāni yāni yāni bravīṣi mām । teṣu teṣu vadho yuktas tava maithili dāruṇaḥ । । ॥5-20-6॥
Translation
O Maithili, for every single harsh word you speak to me, a terrible death is the fitting punishment for you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे मैथिली! तुम मुझसे जितने भी कठोर वचन कह रही हो, उनमें से प्रत्येक वचन के लिए तुम्हें भयानक मृत्युदंड देना ही उचित है।
English Commentary
Ravana explicitly quantifies the danger Sita is in. He states that every single harsh word (yāni yāni... teṣu teṣu) she utters is sufficient grounds for a dāruṇaḥ vadhaḥ (gruesome execution). This emphasizes the absolute power dynamic: Ravana holds the power of life and death, and he wants Sita to know that she is pushing him to the brink. It is a chilling reminder that in Lanka, free speech against the king is a capital offense, and Sita is surviving solely on borrowed time due to his lust.

रावण का धैर्य अब जवाब दे रहा है। वह सीता को याद दिलाता है कि वह एक राजा है और राजा का अपमान मृत्युदंड का कारण बन सकता है। 'दारुणः' शब्द का अर्थ है भयानक या क्रूर। रावण यह जताना चाहता है कि वह सीता की बातों को सहन कर रहा है, यह उसकी महानता है (उसकी दृष्टि में)। वह सीता को डराने का प्रयास कर रहा है कि उसकी वाणी ही उसकी मृत्यु का कारण बन सकती है। यहाँ 'मैथिली' संबोधन का प्रयोग सीता के राजकुल की याद दिलाने के लिए भी हो सकता है।
