पौलस्त्यस्य वरिष्ठस्य रावणस्य महात्मनः ।
दशग्रीवस्य भार्यात्वं सीते न बहु मन्यसे ।

paulastyasya variṣṭhasya rāvaṇasya mahātmanaḥ |
daśagrīvasya bhāryātvaṃ sīte na bahu manyase ॥5-21-3॥
Translation
"O Sita, do you not highly esteem becoming the wife of the ten-headed Ravana, the great-souled one, the best of the lineage of Pulastya?"

"हे सीते! तुम पुलस्त्य कुल में उत्पन्न, श्रेष्ठ, महामनस्वी दशग्रीव रावण की पत्नी होने को बहुत आदर की दृष्टि से नहीं देख रही हो?"
English Commentary
The Rakshasis attempt to reframe Sita’s rejection as a foolish dismissal of a great honor. By invoking Ravana’s lineage ('Paulastyasya' - descendant of Pulastya) and referring to him as 'Mahātmanaḥ' (great-souled), they try to legitimize him solely based on his pedigree and power, ignoring his adharmic actions. This reveals the warped moral compass of the Rakshasis, where power and lineage justify any behavior. They are essentially asking Sita, "Don't you realize what a prestigious offer you are refusing?" trying to appeal to a sense of status that Sita, strictly following Dharma, does not value over righteousness.

यहाँ राक्षसियाँ 'भेद' और 'प्रलोभन' नीति का प्रयोग कर रही हैं। वे रावण को 'महात्मनः' (महान आत्मा वाला) और 'वरिष्ठ' (श्रेष्ठ) कह रही हैं, जो उनकी दृष्टि में रावण का स्वरूप है। वे सीता को यह समझाने का प्रयास कर रही हैं कि रावण को अस्वीकार करके वह एक बहुत बड़े सौभाग्य को ठुकरा रही हैं। 'पौलस्त्यस्य' (पुलस्त्य वंशी) कहकर वे रावण के उच्च कुल का वास्ता दे रही हैं, यह जताने के लिए कि वह कोई साधारण राक्षस नहीं, बल्कि ऋषि कुल से सम्बंधित है। यह सीता के मूल्यों को भ्रमित करने का प्रयास है।
