ततस्त्वेकजटा नाम राक्षसी वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।
आमन्त्र्य क्रोधताम्राक्षी सीतां करतलोदरीम् ।

tatastvekajaṭā nāma rākṣasī vākyamabravīt |
āmantrya krodhatāmrākṣī sītāṃ karatalodarīm ॥5-21-4॥
Translation
Then, a Rakshasi named Ekajata, her eyes copper-red with anger, addressed the slender-waisted Sita and spoke these words.

तदनन्तर क्रोध से लाल नेत्रों वाली 'एकजटा' नामक राक्षसी ने, हथेली के समान (पतले) उदर वाली सीता को सम्बोधित करके यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
The narrative zooms in on specific tormentors. Ekajata (One-matted-hair) is introduced, her physical appearance manifesting her rage ('krodhatāmrākṣī' - copper-red eyes). Valmiki juxtaposes this terrifying image with the delicate beauty of Sita, described as 'karatalodarīm' (one with a waist as slim as the palm of a hand). This description emphasizes Sita’s physical frailty caused by her austere penance and grief, contrasting sharply with the brute vitality and aggression of her guard. It highlights the vulnerability of the victim against the overpowering force of the oppressor.

अब विशिष्ट राक्षसियों का परिचय आरम्भ होता है। 'एकजटा' (जिसकी एक ही जटा हो) का क्रोध उसकी 'ताम्राक्षी' (तांबे जैसी लाल आँखों) से व्यक्त हो रहा है। इसके विपरीत, सीता जी के लिए 'करतलोदरीम्' (जिसका उदर हथेली की तरह पतला/सपाट हो) विशेषण का प्रयोग उनकी शारीरिक कृशता और सौन्दर्य को दर्शाता है, जो उपवास और शोक के कारण और भी क्षीण हो गई हैं। एक ओर क्रोध से भरी भयानक राक्षसी है और दूसरी ओर कोमल और सुकुमार सीता। यह विषमता सीता के संकट को और अधिक स्पष्ट करती है।
