पुलस्त्यस्य वरिष्ठस्य रावणस्य महात्मनः ।
दशग्रीवस्य भार्यात्वं सीते न बहु मन्यसे ।

pulastyasya tu tejasvī maharṣirmānasaḥ sutaḥ |
nāmnā sa viśravā nāma prajāpatisamaprabhaḥ ॥5-21-6॥
Translation
"The glorious Maharishi named Vishrava, radiant like a Prajapati, was the mind-born son of Pulastya."

"पुलस्त्य के (भी) तेजस्वी और प्रजापति के समान प्रभावशाली, 'विश्रवा' नामक मानस पुत्र हुए, जो महर्षि थे।"
English Commentary
Continuing the lineage, Ekajata extols Vishrava, Ravana's father. He is described as a 'Maharishi' (great sage) and 'tejasvī' (glorious/radiant), comparing his splendor to that of a Prajapati. The emphasis on the ascetic and brahminical roots of Ravana is calculated. The Rakshasis are using the logic that the fruit must be as good as the tree. They are trying to intimidate Sita with the spiritual weight of Ravana's ancestry, implying that rejecting a scion of such a holy lineage is an act of ignorance or arrogance.

वंशावली आगे बढ़ती है। पुलस्त्य के पुत्र 'विश्रवा' का परिचय दिया गया है। उन्हें 'महर्षि' और 'तेजस्वी' (तेज से युक्त) कहा गया है। उनकी तुलना 'प्रजापतिसमप्रभः' (प्रजापति के समान प्रभा वाले) कहकर की गई है। यह वर्णन सीता को यह याद दिलाने के लिए है कि रावण एक अत्यंत पवित्र और तपस्वी परम्परा से आता है। राक्षसियाँ यह नहीं समझ पा रही हैं कि सीता के लिए 'कुल' से अधिक महत्वपूर्ण 'शील' और 'धर्म' है। वे रावण के पिता और दादा के गुणों का बखान करके रावण के अपराधों को ढकना चाहती हैं।
