Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ऊचुश्च परमक्रुद्धाः प्रगृह्याशु परश्वधान् ।
नेयमर्हति भर्तारं रावणं राक्षसाधिपम् ।
।
५.२२.११।। ॥५-२२-११॥
ūcuśca paramakruddhāḥ pragṛhyāśu paraśvadhān |
neyamarhati bhartāraṃ rāvaṇaṃ rākṣasādhipam ॥5-22-11॥
Translation
Extremely angry, and quickly seizing their axes, they said, "She is not worthy of having the Lord of Rakshasas, Ravana, as her husband."

अत्यंत क्रोधित होकर और शीघ्रता से फरसे (कुल्हाड़ियाँ) उठाकर वे बोलीं—"यह (सीता) राक्षसराज रावण को पति रूप में पाने के योग्य नहीं है।"
English Commentary
The threat escalates to lethal intent. The Rakshasis arm themselves with 'paraśvadhān' (axes), signaling that the time for talk is over. Their statement creates a paradox: they were just begging her to marry Ravana, but now, faced with rejection, they declare her 'unworthy' ('na iyam arhati'). This is a common psychological reaction to rejection—devaluing the object that cannot be attained. It justifies their impulse to kill her, framing it as removing someone unworthy of their king's attention.

अब धमकियाँ शाब्दिक से शारीरिक हो गई हैं। राक्षसियों ने 'परश्वधान्' (फरसे/कुल्हाड़ियाँ) उठा लिए हैं। उनका तर्क अब बदल गया है—चूंकि सीता ने रावण को ठुकराया है, इसलिए अब वे कह रही हैं कि सीता रावण के योग्य ही नहीं है। यह 'अंगूर खट्टे हैं' जैसा भाव भी हो सकता है, या फिर यह निष्कर्ष कि ऐसी मूर्ख स्त्री का अंत ही उचित है। हथियारों का उठना संकट को चरम पर ले जाता है, जहाँ सीता के प्राणों पर सीधा संकट आ गया है।
