बहून्यप्रतिरूपाणि वचनानि सुदुर्मते ।
अनुक्रोशान्मृदुत्वाच्च सोढानि तव मैथिलि ।
न च नः कुरुषे वाक्यं हितं कालपुरस्कृतम् ।

॥५-२२-२४॥
Bahūnyapratirūpāṇi vacanāni sudurmate |
Anukrośānmṛdutvācca soḍhāni tava maithili |
Na ca naḥ kuruṣe vākyaṃ hitaṃ kālapuraskṛtam ॥5-22-24॥
Translation
O foolish Maithili! You have spoken many inappropriate words, which we have tolerated out of pity and gentleness. Yet, you do not follow our beneficial advice, which is appropriate for the time.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे दुर्बुद्धि मैथिली! तुमने बहुत से अनुचित वचन कहे हैं, जिन्हें हमने दया और कोमलता के कारण सह लिया। परन्तु तुम समय के अनुसार कहा गया हमारा हितकारी वचन नहीं मान रही हो।
English Commentary
Vikata insults Sita as sudurmate (one with a wicked/foolish mind) and claims moral superiority. She asserts that the Rakshasis have shown immense restraint, tolerating Sita's "inappropriate" rejections out of mridutva (gentleness/softness)—a blatant lie given their horrific behavior. This inversion of reality is meant to make Sita feel ungrateful. Vikata argues that their advice is kalapuraskritam (timely/dictated by the times), implying that morality is situational. She suggests that wisdom lies in adapting to circumstances (accepting Ravana), and Sita's refusal to adapt is a fatal flaw.

विकटा यहाँ सीता को 'सुदुर्मते' (अत्यंत खराब बुद्धि वाली) कहती है क्योंकि सीता ने रावण को ठुकराया है। यह श्लोक 'गैसलाइटिंग' (Gaslighting) का उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण है। राक्षसी दावा करती है कि वे 'दया' (अनुक्रोश) और 'कोमलता' (मृदुत्व) के कारण शांत थीं, जबकि वास्तव में वे सीता को प्रताड़ित कर रही थीं। वे सीता के सत्य वचनों को 'अप्रतिरूपाणि' (अनुचित/भद्दे) कहती हैं। वे अपनी क्रूरता को संयम का नाम दे रही हैं और सीता की निष्ठा को मूर्खता बता रही हैं। 'कालपुरस्कृतम्' का अर्थ है जो समय की मांग है; वे सीता पर अवसरवादी बनने का दबाव डाल रही हैं।
